Ventrue Clan Meeting

This meeting takes place in the Flagler Estate.  When you arrive, you see the following people already there:

  • Henry Flagler
  • Juliette Matthews
  • Prince Darwin
  • Lloyd
  • Sean
  • Hanz
  • Two other men whom you don’t recognize

H – Very well, if we are all here, let us begin.  Inez please take down the minutes.

You see a very attractive South American looking woman, extremely well dressed, sit down and take out her notepad.  She is not Kindred from what you can tell.

H – Our meeting has begun, this is Ventrue Clan meeting # 456, West Palm Beach, FL.  We have several items on the agenda tonight, the first of which is a new arrival to our city. I shall yield the floor to our new arrival, and..

The door bursts open and you see a fairly heavyset greasy looking man in cowboy boots, black pants, plaid shirt and a jacket.  He is balding at the top of his head and wears thick glasses.

Mertle – Sorry, Im late, yall.  You know how it is – business is booming and I had to take care of some things, and well…

He walks past a few of the members in the room, “excuse me”, he continues “excuse me – coming through”.  When he gets to Rose he stops.

M – “Well I’ll be dammed, we have a new member!  Well, darling – my name is Mertle, Mertle Harris, and I am very pleased to meet you”..

M – Yup you probably know me already – I own FIVE – count em – 5 of the largest dealerships in the area.  Of course we don’t have a Cadilac yet, but its only a matter of time.  Those bastards are so unreasonable, and well… he he he – those are some are high level business matters that Im sure are over your pretty little head…

H – THANK YOU, MERTLE – now if you please take your seat, we can continue?

M – Oh yeah, sorry – sorry – I didn’t mean to cause a stir there. Hehe (he smiles at rose and winks).

H – As I was saying (gives a dirty look to Mertle) – I now yield the floor to our newest Member, Rose – as is customary in our traditions, she will let us know a bit more about her lineage and how she came to Palm Beach.

H – Well thank you for that, Rose.  And if it is ok with your highness (points to Darwin) on behalf of the entire clan, I would like to extend you our welcome.

H- Well thank you – now the next matter is quite disturbing.  It has come to our attention that the Toreador have made quite significant negotiations with studios in LA – specifically with Warner Brothers – to have a new Studio built here – in a fairly large plot of land they own near Lake Okechobee.  As you can imagine, this will draw a great deal of attention to us, and…

D- Im sorry – what is a Studio?

H – It’s a facility Sir, where they create Motion Pictures – where they film the moving pictures that are so in fashion these days, Sire.

D – How will this draw attention to us?

H – Well, this will draw in the Media, you know – many people coming here – Television, Newspapers, all types of reporters etc.  Many very public figures, such as movie stars will be here, and..

D – Enough.  This will not be.  How do you know of this?

H – Well Sir, apparently the Toreador have kept this very quiet, but I found out due to the large number of permits and re-zonings requests they have made.

D – I see – I will speak to Genevieve about it.  I do not want this here.

H – Thank you, Sir – I think none of us want the additional attention this will draw here.

H – Well next, I would like to say that I hope that everyone here attends the Phantom of the Opera Opening at the new Kravitz Center.  We have all of course been invites and I am afraid that it would harm our relations with Clan Toreador if any of us were to miss this event.  I believe even Prince Diego is coming.

Darwin raises an eyebrow.  “He is?”

H – Yes, your highness

D – Lovely, just bloody wonderful – he mutters under his breath.

H – Well yes – I hope we can make a good show of support at this event?  He looks at Darwin mainly.

D – Yes, I plan to attend – sighs…

H – Ok excellent…,

H – Well – we have one last matter to discuss.  Hmm.  <clears his throat> this is regarding our representation within the local Primogen, your highness…

Darwin raises an eye brow.

H – well yes – we all spoke, and we feel that it would be in the best interest of the clan and OF COURSE in YOUR best interest as well, if we had another Ventrue represent the clan in the Primogen instead of yourself your highness.  This will free up your time, and will allow you to be more involved in city matters instead of the day to day…

Mertle – Wait a second now – no one consulted me – no one asked me squat…

H – Well, yes – we are aware of how busy you are Mertle – a man of your stature has many pressing matters to tend to and yet we know how dedicated you are to the clan’s best interest and we naturally assumed that you would be ok with this…

Mertle – Well, yes, I am busy – and I have many very very important things to do… <smiles at Rose> he he he – well ok – alright…

H – anyway your highness we though it would be best if we had …

D – Fine – I care not – you can have someone else represent the clan in the Primogen.  Who did you have in mind?

H – Well, we discussed this issue a length, Sire, and we took of course several factors into consideration, including the current political climate and our relationship with other clans, and also, we considered…

D – Henry – I am old and impatient – do you plan to get to the point anytime this century?

Sean laughs a bit at this

D – Sean? Did you have something to add?

Sean – <cough> No.. no sir., so sorry – had something in my throat – I am ok… No – no sir, Nothing to add…

D – Well, Henry?

H – Me, sir, we thought it would be best if I represented the clan..

Mertle – Now wait just a minute there…

Darwin – <interrupts Mertle> FINE – that is fine Henry – I will announce it at the Primogen this week.

Henry – Thank you, your highness

Mertle looks like he wants to say something but thinks better of it.

Darwin – Now, Is anything else?  <he looks around the room>

Mertle – Well, I wanted to ask again, if I could possibly make another…

Darwin – No Mertle – I will not discuss this again.  The answer is still no.  If you need assistance use Ghouls – if you need Kindred assistance for more difficult matters, you may speak to Lloyd and he will find someone to assist you.

Mertle – Well, its not just a matter of assistance, it’s a matter that.. well – I want one and I don’t understand why..

Darwin – Because I am not about to let you subject an innocent creature to the burden that is kindred life just because you are lonely.  Get a dog or make new friends.  DO NOT ask me for this again.

Mertle – If I was in Dade they would let me …

Darwin – you are welcome to relocate to Dade – If you keep asking me this, you will involuntary relocate there – Until then, this is my city and my word here is law. <Darwin gets up to start to leave>

Mertle – Wait a minute – isn’t Henry the new Clan Elder now – isn’t it up to him now if I can have one or not?

Darwin – Yes, Henry is the new Clan Elder.  However if he chooses to cross me on this issue or not, that is his decision <looks at sternly at Henry>

H – Erhm – no of course not – I agree with you, your highness.  <Frowns at Mertle>

We do not need more ventrue at this time.

Darwin stands up.  Looks over to Henry – “Thank you for your hospitality” looks around the room “If anyone needs me, you can send for Lloyd.”  And he starts to walk out of the room

Darwin’s “entourage” leaves as well – this includes the 2 men you don’t know, Sean, Hanz and Lloyd.

Metle looks pissed and walks over to Henry to talk to him, <I thought you said you were gonna talk to him…> and trails off

Juliette walks over to you –“Oh my dear, this is my chance to officially welcome you to the clan! I am so happy you are here, we must go shopping this week before the opening my dear”…
